the importance of green chemistryAlthough the world is green, not all of our hearts are green. Not yet, anyway. Some of us, however, do little things to help the environment. Whether it’s recycling or planting a tree, there is surge in everything green. Spring cleaning is no exception, as many are embracing green cleaning. Here is a bit of a refresher.

According to Wikipedia, green cleaning “refers to using cleaning methods and products with environmentally friendly ingredients designed to preserve human health and environmental quality.” Green cleaning is constantly evolving, as new and better products are developed, tested and released to the public. At My Carpet Cleaning Services, we keep up-to-date on all of these developments and offer top-notch green cleaning.

In the article, “University professor speaks on the importance of green chemistry with cleaning supplies,” Megan Jurkowski of The Daily Illini writes, “According to the EPA, natural cleaners are an easy and effective way to eliminate contaminants and prevent pollutions of the surrounding ecosystems. These natural cleaners provide a way for citizens to reduce the harmful effects of cleaning chemicals on the environment.” In terms of cleaning our own homes and lives, we must consider the environment. It is the holy trifecta. We are not just cleaning our homes, we are also cleaning up our lives as well as world around us. Using cleaning supplies containing harmful chemicals should be avoidable.

Jurkowski’s article focuses on the efforts of William Nelson, adjunct professor of chemistry, as he encourages the use of green chemistry and, in particular, using it to create more sustainable non-toxic cleaning products. Two things he singles out are cleaners containing alkylphenol ethoxylates and phosphorous-containing dishwashing detergents. The use of these things have adverse effects on water, wildlife and the whole ecosystem. We can use similar products that contain none of the pollutants.

At My Carpet Cleaning Services, rest assured that we use only the safest and most eco-friendly cleaning products around. All premium carpet cleaning chemicals are phosphate free, even the non- green cleaning chemicals!
