Prolong Your Mattress Life

Furniture stores will suggest that you replace your mattress every six to eight years. While their reasoning is valid, you might extend the life of your mattress by practicing proper maintenance and sanitation.

Realistically, you can keep your mattress for about ten to twelve years. As long as you’re not waking up tired or in pain, your main concern is the aesthetics and smell of the mattress.

We sweat and shed skin in our sleep, despite taking any skin care treatments. Losing dead skin and hair is normal in the human body, and stopping nature has never worked out well for anyone before.

Aside from getting your mattress professionally cleaned during routine housework, you can add a quality mattress cover to help keep things tidy as well. When you can wash the oils and debris off the mattress easily, it’s like the fountain of youth for your bed.

Check out these two great tips from sheknows.com- these methods prolong the health and life of your mattress, putting off a huge investment for just a few more years.

Spruce it up

While your sheets are in the wash, spray a lightly scented odor eliminator directly on top of the mattress. Pick a scent that you can sleep on, like relaxing lavender, vanilla or ylang-ylang. Allow time for the spray to dry before putting the sheets back on.

Heat it up

When laundering your sheets, use the hottest water settings you can to kill any bed bugs that might have invaded (check the washing instructions on the sheet tags first, though). Make sure your sheets are completely dry before placing them back on your mattress.  “
